Internship with BETC for Ulé by Shiseido

Moodboard

I was tasked with conceptualizing secondary packaging and branding for a skincare line that embodies the essence of nature and sets new standards for traceability. The new Shiseido’s brand is committed to harnessing the power of natural ingredients cultivated in their own vertical farms located in France. Working in collaboration with a small team, I had presented my research and concepts to the BETC Rouge team, emphasizing the alignment with brand’s ethos as well as user’s experience and storytelling through the experience of opening the product.

Packaging

The packaging is made out of mycelium. I have personally experimented and created objects using mycelium. It’s an exceptional material derived from the network of fungal roots. The packaging is durable, while remaining fully biodegradable. Each label is created using seed paper, adding an element of storytelling while echoing brand's philosophy. Simply plant the label, and watch the seeds grow.  What more, the mycelium box can be added to the soil, enriching it and biodegrading in it, thus the packaging becomes regenerative. On a company’s level, the waste created in the production, could be used to feed mycelium used to create secondary packaging.
