Parsons Paris Thesis Art Installation

“She, who knows” is an immersive installation inspired by the rich history of Slavic pagan rituals. I drew inspiration from the vibrant festivities, particularly those centred around fertility and the veneration of goddesses, and female spirits. This art piece is an exploration of personal heritage, femininity, spirituality, and bond with the natural world.

At the heart of the installation, on a pedestal, lies a wreath made out of flowers and weeds. The two channel video is in part a documentation of the process of weaving of the wreath that includes latin names of the flowers used, and in part documentation of the ritual I have created as a performance piece. The videos are projected in such way that the wreath creates shadows on the wall and the top of the pedestal, which adds visual texture.

The soundscape I created is a recording of me reciting Polish poetry praising nature, as well as sounds of the howling wind. This evokes experience of invoking a spell out loud in nature which would occur during pagan rituals.

The installation is an interplay between ancient traditions, identity, as well as a reminder of Slavic roots. By channeling my own fascination with Slavic pagan history,  I created visually and sensorially immersive experience that invites contemplation.
